On Friday 13th July ELARD participated in the Conference “CAP towards 2020 – taking stock with civil society" that was held in Brussels.

The event was organized by the European Commission as a follow-up to the broad consultation on the challenges faced by European agriculture and the need for policy intervention, which took place in July 2010, on the initiative of Dacian Cioloş, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development.

The Conference provided a forum for civil society to debate and discuss the CAP reform proposals for post-2013 which were adopted by the Commission on 12 October 2011, and the degree to which the proposals contribute to meeting the challenges identified during the public debate launched in 2010. Particularly the speakers have focused on the following issues:

To what extent will the new CAP and the proposed combination of policy tools contribute to food security?

To what extent will the new CAP contribute to a more sustainable management of natural resources and to mitigation and adaptation to climate change?

To what extent will the new CAP contribute to a balanced territorial development of European agriculture and rural areas?

It was an important opportunity to discuss about the future of CAP and to get  LEADER’s voice heard in reference to the next programming period where LEADER is particularly strengthened. In this context a specific Workshop was organised "CAP and the balanced development" to which ELARD attended through its President, Mr. Petri Rinne who was also a main speaker. It was an interesting exchange of ideas and points of view for the next period and  all interventions  stressed the importance and the role of LEADER for the territorial cohesion just like European Commission has proposed.

All the presentations given by the speakers are available on the "relevant files" section of this page.
