Description (brief history)

The Greek LEADER+ Network (Network of Rural Development Organisations) was established in the framework of the LEADER+ Community Initiative (C.I.) and is specifically foreseen in Priority Axis 3, “Network”, with an implementation period of 2000-2008.
Participation in the Network is obligatory for all Local Groups (LAGs) of Priority Axis 1 of the O.P. LEADER+, in addition to the other LAGs and Organisations that are involved in the implementation of Measure 2.1 Other Rural Development Organisations may also participate in.
The Network already consists of 40 LAGs and 30 organisations that promote rural development.

Activities

The Greek LEADER+ Network :
• Assists weak LAGs or areas in improving their capabilities,
• Records, highlights and promotes the settlement of issues concerning the implementation of LEADER+ in our country,
• Organizes forums and work meetings aimed at transferring best practices, innovations and know-how,
• Organizes training programs,
• Promotes quality interventions in the framework of LEADER+,
• Assists in the overall upgrading of LAGs, and
• Undertakes initiatives that contribute to the development of rural areas.

Aims – Objectives

The objective of the Greek LEADER+ Network is the exchange of experience and the diffusion of information and Know – how through Local Actions Groups (LAGs) – Development Agencies and other rural development organisations.
This objective is put into action through the obligatory participation of all LAGs of the LEADER+ C.I. and other Rural Development Organisations.
Within this framework, a form of “creative solidarity” is expressed between the areas and the rural development organisations, aimed at diffusing knowledge and innovation for the benefit of integrated and balanced development.
From the beginning of its establishment, the Greek LEADER+ Network has chosen the path of positive intervention in LEADER+ issues.
