Description (brief history)

The Spanish Network for Rural Development (REDR) is a non-profit making association which was founded in 1995 with the general aim or promoting a global and sustainable model of rural development.

The REDR is currently made up of Regional Networks, which include over 200 Rural Development Groups throughout Spain. These Regional Groups manage Programmes and Initiatives related to Rural Development, essentially EU Initiative LEADER and the Operative Programme for Development and Diversification of Rural Areas (PRODER).

Activities

___ Services Offered One of the aims that REDR gives priority to is that of rendering its members a global set of value added services that will complement those that they can readily obtain from their local Groups. The services that REDR can offer are a response to the demands of our associates and the Regional Networks, who are, in turn, the main beneficiaries of a business activity which is based on economies of scale and on the rendering of services always adapted to their daily needs.

Organisation Rules

· The General Assembly is the supreme governing body responsible for decision-making of the REDR and it is constituted by one representative of each of the Local Action Groups that are members of the REDR. · The Board of Directors, is the body responsible for representing REDR amongst Assemblies, and it is constituted by: a maximum of one representative from each Territorial Network and one representative from the groups whose programmes are inter-regional. They will have weighted voting rights corresponding to the number of groups of the Autonomous Region which they represent. The members of the Board of Directors will be appointed by the corresponding Territorial Networks, whom they will represent for a period of four years. · The Permanent Commission of the Board of Directors is the body responsible for representing the REDR. It is composed of the Chairman, the Vice-president, the Secretary and the Treasurer.

Aims & Objectives

The REDR is a very useful tool for its members, being responsible for: · Protecting their interests · Rendering value added services · Organising activities · Transferring and sharing information · Co-ordinating the efforts of the different Regional Networks for Rural Development · Representing its members in the national, EU and International institutional and administrative bodies.

Our Aims ·
· To protect the interests of the members of the REDR in the Administrative Bodies. To reinforce their presence in International Networks and Associations, and in national and international forums relevant for the present and future of rural development. · To render value added services to its members, in a way that they complement those already offered by Regional Networks to their local Groups. ·
· To stimulate sustainable development policies with the objective of improving the welfare and long-term survival of rural populations, thus assuring a high-quality standard of living through the activity and employment which this provides. ·
· To promote and encourage measures and synergies that help the development of the rural environment in a global way, (including programmes in those sectors of the population which are experiencing greater difficulties, agrifood production, rural tourism, preservation and protection of the environment, small and medium size rural enterprises, national and international cooperation, etc.)
