Description (brief history)
Cserhatalja is a new LAG, established in 2008, for the 2007-2013 EU RD cycle. The lag is based on the previous Del-Cserhat (South-Cserhat) LAG, established in 2005 for the LEADER+. Population: 38,500, mainly rural in small villages. The area is light mountains with high forest cover. Agriculture: cereals and oilseeds. FruiT. apple, apricots, cherry, plums. Livestock Pig, dairy cattle some sheep and horses. Industry: limited, manly SMEs in the manufacturing sector. Distance from Budapest: 80 km. Highway: 20 km. Biggest town: Paszto, population: 9950. Very important touristic area in Cserhat and Matra mountains. Rural and gastronomy tourism. Wine, indigenous animal breeds, local products, ecological product.

Organisation Rules
Cserhatalja LAG (Nonprofit Ltd.) was approved by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on 26 September 2008.
Aims & Objectives
Develop rural economy, boost tourism, preserve cultural heritages, foster transnational cooperation. There is a high demand for village development, job creation, facilitate regional marketing. With the ELARD membership, our LAG will have a better access to LEADER information, may extend opportunities to generate contacts with foreign LAGs under transnational cooperation. Target areas: tourism, small-scale food processing (local products)
